For Opening the 2008 International Open Symposium
on Childhood Cancer Survivorship |
Striking progress has been made in treating children with cancer in the past several decades and we now expect that by 2010 approximately one of every 450 young adults will be a childhood cancer survivor in North America This progress, however, can’t been seen in developing countries yet. In addition, children who have completed a cancer treatment may sometimes encounter new problems in their future not only physical problems but also cancer-related barriers in education, employment, marriage and other unexpected situations. It is imperative to get a higher cure rate and better QOL for cancer survivors in areas all over the world.
In this symposium, we’ll hear reports from oncologists about cancer treatments in developing countries and discuss the circumstances of patients / survivors / families in several countries.
We hope many participants including medical providers, survivors, families and friends from all over the world will join this international conference. It will be a golden opportunity to unite supporting groups into a worldwide support network.
